Elmond Ahiao

My dad Sam Ahiao told me a story about how we got our last name. This story tells us to be proud that we have a Chinese name.

Our Last Name

A long time ago in the year 1940, my great grandfather’s best friend, who was Chinese, asked him to hold his last name.  His friend did not have any children of his own to hold his last name for him.  My great great grandfather was born in China and he was raised there, since he was 12 years old.  He met his friend at the age of six, and they were very close.  So, my great grandfather said yes, and that’s how we got our last name Ahiao.

The dolphin represents my favorite animal. The letter “A” in the dolphin represents our last name.
